First Street Gallery is pleased to announce its “SELECTS 2027” juried exhibition opportunity. We invite artists to exhibit a small body of work that explores a current or longstanding artistic interest. The show opens on January 7, 2027 and runs through January 30, 2027 in our Chelsea Gallery located at 547 West 27th Street, Suite 514 in New York City.
SELECTS 2027 will highlight a select group of artists, who will each have an exhibition area of approximately 10’H x 10’W of wall space (not necessarily contiguous). Artists with free-standing 3D work will be given the equivalent amount of floor space.
ABOUT THE JUROR
Jill Sarver Rossi is an artist, curator, and arts educator. She serves as Senior Curator at Cynthia Byrnes Contemporary Art in Westport, Connecticut, and is the Executive Director of the Rome Art Program in Rome, Italy. She received her M.F.A. in Painting from Western Connecticut State University and an M.A. from Eastern Illinois University, and has also studied at the Chautauqua Institution in NY. Her work has been exhibited nationally and is held in private collections across the U.S. and abroad. She is represented by First Street Gallery, NYC. Ms. Rossi has curated and juried numerous exhibitions and has taught art education throughout the Midwest and the New York metropolitan area.
ELIGIBILITY
- Open to U.S. resident artists, 18 years and older
- Artists currently represented by First Street Gallery and exhibitors in the Gallery’s “SELECTS 2025” or “SELECTS 2026” exhibition are not eligible to apply.
- Eligible works include ORIGINAL oils, acrylics, watercolors, gouache, pastels, drawings, prints, mixed media, photography, and sculpture in any material.
- 2D work must be wired and ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works. 2D works on paper do not have to be framed under Plexiglass or glass but must have the proper hanging hardware for installation.
- Wall-hung 2D and 3D work: Maximum weight 30 lbs. Must have securely attached wire or other fixture(s) to hang. No work can be hung from the ceiling or pipes. No wall-hung works which require museum gel, command strips, or other adhesives for their installation will be accepted.
- Floor or Pedestal Sculpture: Maximum weight 30 lbs. Sculptors are urged to provide their own pedestals (the gallery has a limited number of pedestals which may be available for small sculptures).
ACCEPTANCE
- Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entered image.
- Any substitution of work or additional work that was not included in the original submission will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any additional work must be approved by the Juror.
- All work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition
SALES
- The gallery will take no commission on any work sold.
- Work not for sale must be marked “N.F.S.” No “P.O.R.” sales.
ENTRY FEE
The fee is $55 for 5 images of works. You must submit five works. Entry fees are non-refundable. All submitted works must be available for the exhibition. The number of works exhibited by each accepted artist will depend on the size of their works relative to the allotted space.
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS (For the Entry Form)
- All entries must be submitted electronically.
- Judging will be done entirely from digital images.
- Maximum Image File Size: 5 MB – Files over 5 MB are not accepted by the entry form.
- File Format: JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg only). No other formats will be accepted by the entry form (ex: PNG, TIFF, GIF, HEIC).
- PLEASE NOTE: To ensure your image is clear and not pixelated when viewed online, the longest edge should be at least 1,000 pixels. The gallery cannot correct or resize any images.
- The Entry form must be filled out completely. Failure to follow instructions may result in nullification of your entry.
- Optional: On the entry form, you MAY provide a brief paragraph about the body of work you are submitting, a website link where your work can be seen, and an Instagram handle.
IMAGE FILE LABELING
- 2D Work
- Please label each JPEG image as follows: LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_Work # (corresponding to the order entered on Entry Form):
- Ex: smith_joe_1.jpg; smith_joe_2.jpg etc.
- 3D Work
- Sculptors MUST submit TWO VIEWS of each work (installation and detail or second view) at no extra cost.
- Please label each JPEG image as follows: LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_Work # (corresponding to the order entered on Entry Form), “a” or “b” (indicating first or second view, or Detail, of the same work):
- Ex: smith_joe_1a.jpg; smith_joe_1b.jpeg
smith_joe_2a.jpg; smith_joe_2b.jpeg etc.
- Files which are mislabeled or lack the artist’s name may not be viewed by the juror.
- Please confirm that your files are labeled properly, meet technical requirements, and can be opened. We recommend saving images to your Desktop before uploading them to the entry form so you can view and change file names.
WORK INFORMATION FORMAT
- The following information for each work must be provided in the entry form:
- Type of Work – (2D or 3D required)
- Artwork Title – (ex. Poppies)
- Medium (specific to the individual work – (Ex: “Oil on canvas,” “Mixed Media (Graphite, Acrylic, and Feathers),” etc.
- Size of Artworks – Must be given in inches. *Height MUST be given before width, whether the work is a vertical or a horizontal. For 2D works, provide height x width. For 3D works (wall hung or freestanding) – provide, in this order, height x width x depth + weight (lbs). The gallery will not correct artwork dimension errors.
- Year of Creation – Artwork’s Creation Date (Ex: 2025; 2025-2026)
- Price – (enter sale price in US $ or N.F.S) (No P.O.R.)
PREPARE ALL MATERIALS BEFORE BEGINNING THE ENTRY FORM
Critically important, you are applying online. A steady internet connection is important. Any interruption can delete the data you have completed in the form. Once you begin the Entry Form, do not leave it and open a different tab in your browser or close the browser. Print or Save this Prospectus to your computer before you go to the Entry Form, so you can open and refer to it without leaving the Form.
DELIVERY OF WORK
- If you are Shipping your work, you must plan to ship it, so it arrives on Wednesday, December 16, 2026, Thursday, December 17, or Friday, December 18.
- Hand-delivered work will be accepted at the gallery ONLY on Wednesday, December 30, 2026, from 12–5 pm or Saturday, January 2, 2027 12–5 pm. Pedestals must be brought with sculpture unless arrangements are made to use the Gallery’s.
- Fragile/unprotected work which requires a professional preparator’s expertise should not be submitted to the Gallery. Work that arrives damaged cannot be repaired by the Gallery and may not be exhibited.
- All shipped work MUST include a prepaid computer-generated FedEx or UPS return label INSIDE the box, addressed from the Gallery, to yourself or a third party who will accept the package for you. Do not affix Return Label on outside of the box. Do not send stamps for return of work; the Post Office does not pick up packages.
- Do not ship work through the United States Postal Service.
RETURN OF ARTWORK
- Hand-delivered work must be picked up on Saturday, January 30, 2027, 4–6 pm OR Wednesday February 3, 2027, 12–5 pm.
- Special arrangements must be made with the Gallery for alternative pickup time before the show closes.
- Shipped work will be sent back by Friday, February 5, 2027.
- The gallery accepts no responsibility for work not retrieved on pick-up date and will charge the artist $5.00 a day thereafter for storage. After 30 days the gallery may dispose of the work.
LIABILITY
Great care will be taken with all work but artists are responsible for insuring their own pieces if they wish. First Street Gallery will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the Gallery. As we have noted since the Pandemic, if, for whatever reason beyond the Gallery’s control, the exhibition cannot be held in the Gallery, it will be held online.
The payment of the entry fee will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. Acceptance of a work of art to this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus.
