FIRST STREET GALLERY is pleased to announce Japanese artist Keiko Niimura’s debut solo exhibition in New York City, “Resonating in Harmony with Nature and Japanese Culture.” The paintings across various media will be on view from June 18 to June 28, 2025, with an opening reception on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 6 to 8pm.

Keiko Niimura draws inspiration from her culture’s deep-rooted connection to nature. Her paintings incorporate both abstraction and realism, as forest animals emerge within vivid color schemes and quilted landscapes, sewing harmonious compositions together. Niimura’s methodology is integral to the effervescent landscapes she creates; figurative painting renders flora and fauna, geometric shapes form abstracted horizons, and traditional calligraphic techniques evoke a rhythmic flow, all intersecting to compose dreamlike and mystical worlds. The vitality of the forest ebbs and flows through her work, inviting viewers into a quiet, instinctive sense of unity with the natural world.

Born in the Kanagawa Prefecture in 1944, Keiko Niimura started creating at a young age. A self-taught artist at first, she later graduated from Yokohama Art School and Keio University in Japan. Niimura has shown in galleries across Japan and in various galleries abroad through the Japan Artists Association (JAA). She has also been published in the Bijutsu no Mado (Art Window) magazine.

Gallery Hours: Wednesday–Saturday, 11am to 6pm
