The Color of Summer: Gallery Artists
July 10–August 17, 2024
Opening Reception: Thursday, July 11, 6–8pm
FIRST STREET GALLERY is proud to present “The Color of Summer,” an exhibition of work by a number of gallery artists from July 10 – August 17, 2024.
The Seasons have been a thematic motif in the arts and humanities for centuries. In earlier epochs, the Seasons were linked to the cosmos, nature, and the individual human being through astrological signs, the four elements, and the four temperaments. The sensations of intensive heat, the destructive realities of climate change also come to mind as we try to hold the bucolic beauty of the landscape and atmosphere in summertime close to our collective consciousness. Surely prolonged, enduring sunlight, in all its universal manifestations, continues to re-awaken the creative spirit after the lifeless cold of winter.
This exhibition reflects the personal interpretations of what summer, with its infinite tonalities and luminous color, conveys to the twelve gallery artists whose work is represented. How has this enchanted season, so full of startling possibility, inspired them, and how has summer’s enduring bounty informed their images and inner lives?
