July 28–August 26, 2023

National Juried Exhibition 2023, Juror Susanna Coffey.

Reception: Thursday, August 3, 5–8pm

FIRST STREET GALLERY is pleased to present its 2023 National Juried Exhibition, curated by artist Susanna Coffey. Composed of works on the ‘Nocturne’ theme, the exhibition inaugurates the Gallery’s new location in Chelsea, at 547 West 27th Street, Suite 514, in NYC.

Throughout history, musicians and artists have been drawn to the visual and the imagined world of the night, with its many moods, as a source of creative inspiration. The contemporary artists in this exhibition, working in a broad range of traditional media, and inventive mixed media, offer figurative, narrative and abstracted imagery evoking the nocturnal world, in its quiet passage from dusk to dawn or awake and lit by dream imagery, interior scenes, or the nightlife that celebrates the night.

The artists themselves come from every region in the country and a rich mix of cultural backgrounds.

The Artists: Audrey Anastasi, Brandin Barón, Pam Bowers, Liza Brenner, Lisa Brody, Jeffrey Carr, Susan Chamberland, Miguel Colón, Ben Cowan, Jacob Crook, Joan Easton, Louis Esposito, Laurie Fader, Peter Fodera, Cara Galowitz, Owen Gray, Yolande Heijnen, Erika Hess, Yasmine Iskander, Sam Kelly, Brigid Kennedy, Randy Klinger, Margaret Koval, Craig Lo Presti, Megan Marden, Amanda Millis, Manuel Miranda, Margaret Montgomery, Zana Naveed, Erica Newton, Sara Pedigo, Kristin Powers, Phil Robinson, Steven Rushefsky, Tony Serio, Mei Seva, Mariam Aziza Stephan, Jesse Thomas, Lisa Tubach and Grant Whipple.
