Kyung Tae Kim’s works are presented in the form of multiple unit frames and expressed with various visual expression techniques that were introduced throughout the history of art. They are symbolic visualization of objects that possess meanings to the artist and objectification of his memories, desires, and various emotions associated with the objects. The images shown in Kim’s works are a visual recording or a history of the artist himself that deals with complex feelings in life such as positive and negative thoughts, reality and imagination, consciousness and unconsciousness, desire and hope.
Throughout the history of art, countless visual expression methods with unique characteristics have been introduced as a result of the development and experiment of various media. However, in a general sense, an artist expresses his or her thoughts and emotion based on one main visual expression method on a single canvas. Kim feels that such expression structure is somewhat limited when attempting to freely express his thoughts and emotions in our current contemporary environment of complex and multi-layered structures. In this regard, Kim reveals his personal stories and inner flowing thoughts and emotions that cannot be explained in words through the form of multiple frame structures and various visual expression techniques from illusionistic expression to minimalistic expression, and from painting, drawing, photography to digital media.
