Transformations in the Garden
October 1 – October 26, 2013
Transformations, oil on canvas, 80″x83″, 2012
My recent paintings, “Transformations in the Garden,” are about abstracted natural forces, or signs—engendered by observations of growth and physical processes of becoming in the natural world. I attempt to translate my responses into the language of painting. Parts of a flower (stem, leaf, petal) metamorphose, for me, into archetypal images. Circles predominate and I think the canvases pulsate. I try to find in the natural forms, parallels—in color, form, structure, and line—to the dramatic energies in nature and in the constantly mutating life of forms.
