First Street Gallery is pleased to announce its “SELECTS 2025” juried exhibition call for artists. This is an opportunity to exhibit a small body of work that explores a current or long standing artistic interest. The show opens on January 9, 2025 and runs through January 24, in our Chelsea Gallery located at 547 West 27th Street, Suite 514 in New York City..
SELECTS 2025 will highlight a select group of artists, who will each have an exhibition area of approximately 10’H x 10’W of wall space (not necessarily contiguous). Artists with free-standing 3D work will be given the equivalent amount of floor space.
ABOUT THE JUROR
Jill Sarver Rossi is an artist. She is also Senior Curator at Cynthia Byrnes Contemporary Art in Westport, CT, and Executive Director of Rome Art Program in Rome, Italy. She received her M.F.A. in Painting from Western Connecticut State University, an M.A. from Eastern Illinois University, and has also studied at the Chautauqua Institution in NY. Her work has been shown nation-wide and is in private collections throughout the U.S. and abroad. She is represented in NYC by First Street Gallery. Jill has curated and juried numerous exhibitions and has taught art education in the Midwest and New York metro area.
ELIGIBILITY
- Open to U.S. resident artists, 18 years and older
- Artists currently represented by First Street Gallery and exhibitors in the Gallery’s “SELECTS 2024” exhibition are not eligible to apply.
- Eligible works include ORIGINAL oils, acrylics, watercolors, pastels, drawings, prints, mixed media, photography, and sculpture in any medium. 2D work must be wired and ready for hanging. D-rings should be used for heavy works. 2D works on paper do not have to be framed under Plexiglass or glass but must have the proper hanging hardware for installation. Sculptors are urged to provide their own pedestals. (The gallery has a limited number of pedestals which may be available for small sculptures.)
- Wall-hung 2D and 3D work: Maximum weight 30 lbs. Must have securely attached wire or other fixture(s) to hang. No work can be hung from the ceiling or pipes.
Floor or Pedestal Sculpture: Maximum weight 30 lbs.

ACCEPTANCE
- Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entered image.
- Any substitution of work or additional work that was not included in the original submission will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any additional work must be approved by the Gallery.
- All work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition
SALES
- The gallery will take no commission on any work sold.
- Work not for sale must be marked “N.F.S.” No “P.O.R.” sales.
ENTRY FEE
The fee is $55 for 5 images of works. You must submit five works. Entry fees are non-refundable. All submitted works must be available for the exhibition. The number of works exhibited by each accepted artist will depend on the size of their works relative to the allotted space.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- All entries must be submitted electronically.
- Judging will be done entirely from JPEGs. No other formats will be accepted.
- JPEGs must be 72 dpi, and at least 600 pixels but not greater than 1200 pixels in any direction. Maximum file size for any individual image is 5MB.
- The size given for works should be the framed size. (If not already framed, estimate as closely as possible). *Height MUST be given before width, regardless of whether the work is a vertical or a horizontal. ALL 3D work should include depth (h x w x d). The gallery will not correct dimension errors if the image orientation does not match the height and width dimensions. The Entry form must be filled out completely. Failure to follow instructions may result in nullification of your entry.
IMAGE LABELING
- 2D Work
- Please label each JPEG image as follows: LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_Work # (corresponding to the order entered on Entry Form):
- Ex: smith_joe_1.jpg; smith_joe_2.jpg etc.
- 3D Work
- Sculptors must submit TWO VIEWS of each work (installation and detail or second view) at no extra cost.
- Please label each JPEG image as follows: LAST NAME_FIRST NAME_Work # (corresponding to the order entered on Entry Form), “a” or “b” (indicating first or second view, or Detail, of the same work):
- Ex: smith_joe_1a.jpg; smith_joe_1b.jpeg
smith_joe_2a.jpg; smith_joe_2b.jpeg etc.
- Files which are mislabeled or lack the artist’s name may not be viewed by the juror.
DELIVERY OF WORK
- Hand-delivered work will be accepted at the gallery ONLY on Saturday, January 4, 11:30 am-5:30 pm. Pedestals must be brought with sculpture unless arrangements are made to use the Gallery’s.
- If you are Shipping your work, it must arrive on Wednesday, December 18, Thursday, December 19, or Friday, December 20.
- Fragile/unprotected work which requires a professional preparator’s expertise should not be submitted to the Gallery
- All shipped work MUST include a prepaid computer-generated FedEx or UPS return label INSIDE the box, addressed from the Gallery, to yourself or a third party who will accept the package for you. Do not affix Return Label on outside of the box. Do not send stamps for return of work; the Post Office does not pick up packages.
RETURN OF UNSOLD ARTWORK
- Hand-delivered work must be picked up on Monday, January 25, 11:30 am-5:30 pm. Special arrangements must be made with the Gallery for alternative pickup time.
- Shipped work will be sent back by Saturday, February 8.
- The gallery accepts no responsibility for work not retrieved on pick-up date and will charge the artist $5.00 a day thereafter for storage. After 30 days the gallery may dispose of work.
LIABILITY
Great care will be taken with all work and artists are responsible for insuring their own pieces if they wish. First Street Gallery will not be responsible for any loss or damage to work while on the premises or in transit to or from the Gallery. The payment of the entry fee will serve as your acceptance of the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus. Acceptance of a work of art to this exhibition shall be understood to constitute an agreement on the part of the artist to the terms and conditions stated in this prospectus.
